Berg scored 59 points and grabbed 24 rebounds in three games as she led the Chiefs to the championship of the John Glenn Tournament in Norwalk. The Chiefs defeated St. Paul, 42-34, in the first round behind Berg’s 16 points. She had 15 points in a 48-38 victory over Rowland, and finished with 28 points in a 50-46 win over Bell Gardens in the title game. She was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
Other top prep performers:
Shannon Perry, Cerritos High basketball player, scored 44 points in three games at the Savanna tournament in Anaheim. Perry scored 20 points in a 61-44 win over Edison, 12 in a 51-19 victory over Savanna, and 12 in a 71-56 loss to Thousand Oaks.
Gina Monte, a basketball player for St. Paul High of Santa Fe Springs, had 57 points in three games as she helped her team win the consolation championship of the John Glenn Tournament. In the second round she had 20 points and 14 rebounds in a 50-34 win over Glenn. She finished the tournament by scoring 28 points in a 52-47 victory over Bassett.
