Bruce Kaplan, 47, an expert in folk and ethnic music who founded Flying Fish Records. Kaplan drew on his academic expertise in anthropology and an interest in folklore in founding the company in 1974. It has received 18 Grammy nominations. The company has a catalogue of 520 titles that includes folk, blues, bluegrass, jazz, country, African, new age, reggae, rock and ethnic releases. Kaplan was a member of the Illinois Arts Council, the Chicago Blues Festival Committee and the Chicago chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
