Dorothy Dinnerstein; Wrote ‘The Mermaid and the Minotaur’

Dorothy Dinnerstein, 69, a retired Rutgers University professor and feminist author best known for her book “The Mermaid and the Minotaur,” published in 1976. It became a classic in collegiate women’s studies departments. The book, which was translated into seven languages, examined the underlying reasons why people accept gender role playing. Ms. Dinnerstein was a psychology professor at the Rutgers-Newark campus for 30 years until she retired three years ago. In Englewood, N.J., on Thursday of injuries suffered in a car accident.
