Dividend Increases Rise: A total of 121 companies raised cash dividends to shareholders in December, up 19% from a year earlier and a continuation of the improving trend that began late in 1991, Standard & Poor’s Corp. said. For the year, 1,333 companies raised dividends, up from 1,086 in 1991 and 1,263 in 1990. Meanwhile, dividend cuts or omissions fell to 27 in December from 34 a year earlier. For the year, the number of cuts or omissions was 277, down 37% from 437 in 1991.
