PLATFORM : Promoting Fear

I have a lot of trouble with reports like this that claim crime among certain minority groups is up. It seems that many of these disturbing trends only accomplish one thing--to raise fears among whites.
There’s no doubt that crime among Asians has been steadily rising. But isn’t crime rising among all ethnic groups? What about crime among Caucasians? What about all the white-collar crimes that are usually committed by white males? My God, right here in Orange County, Newport Beach was robbed blind--not by Asians, blacks or Mexicans, but by whites.
Instead of casting blame on any one ethnic group, let’s tackle this problem as one community. As soon as we can say that crime is up and it’s committed by all Americans, we can face the problem as a whole and as one united nation.
If there is one thing the Los Angeles riots have taught us, people, no matter what their skin color or religion, will turn to crime if their backs are against the wall.
