ARLETA : DMV Office to Be Open Saturdays
State Department of Motor Vehicles offices in Arleta and five other communities will be open Saturdays, Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Panorama City) will announce today.
The change takes effect Saturday and will extend indefinitely to help gauge the response from DMV patrons, Katz spokesman Russell Bell said. The offices--including those in Bell Gardens, Santa Ana and three in Northern California--will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In the past, Saturday hours have been tried on a temporary basis in 15 cities and have attracted many users, he said.
Katz, chairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee and candidate for mayor of Los Angeles, has introduced legislation that would require the DMV to offer Saturday hours permanently throughout the state to better serve motorists, Bell said.
