South Whittier : Council Will Push for Affordable Housing Grant
- Share via
A local volunteer council has announced plans to push for a government-funded, affordable housing development.
The South Whittier Community Coordinating Council, which acts as an unofficial city council for the unincorporated area, presented sketchy plans at its Monday meeting. Council leaders said they will seek to incorporate the council as a nonprofit agency to become eligible for government housing grants. Beyond that, few other details have been decided, such as the location and size of the proposed development. One site under consideration is a vacant parcel at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Mills Avenue.
The council has scheduled a hearing to gather public opinion on its plans at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 in the South Whittier Intermediate School Auditorium, 13243 E. Los Nietos Road, South Whittier.
