Gardner scored 55 points as he helped the Braves win the Brea-Olinda tournament. He tallied 18 points in a 75-66 win over El Dorado, then added 22 points and a school-record 17 assists in an 83-55 victory over Gahr. Gardner led his team to the championship by posting 15 points in an 84-66 win over Compton.

Charles O’Bannon, the star forward from Artesia High, helped his team to a couple of wins in the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. O’Bannon posted 25 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots in a 54-50 win over South Lakes High of Reston, Va. He was held to seven points and had eight rebounds and four blocked shots in a 52-44 loss to Shawnee High of New Jersey, then bounced back with 25 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots to lead Artesia to a third-place finish with a 54-52 win over Westover High of Georgia.
