A former sheriff’s deputy pleaded guilty to tax evasion and loan fraud this week, making him the 15th deputy convicted of federal crimes in an investigation of corruption within the department, prosecutors said.
Deputy Narcizo Ernest Reaza, 39, was a member of the department’s Major Violators One Narcotics Task Force and pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion and three counts of loan fraud, prosecutors said. According to prosecutors Barbara M. Scheper and Steven M. Bauer, Reaza admitted receiving $80,000 in real estate kickbacks during 1988. He concealed the money to avoid paying federal taxes and falsified loan applications for other properties, they added.
