Bo Jackson ran this week for the first time since undergoing hip replacement surgery last year, Chicago White Sox officials said.
Team trainers said Jackson showed no adverse effects from the running, which they described as phase one of his comeback bid.
Jackson, whose baseball and football careers were interrupted because of a hip injury in early 1990, tried to make a comeback last year in spring training with the White Sox. He was able to hit, but unable to run, and stopped playing after a few days.
