A West Hollywood lawyer was sentenced Monday to a year in jail and fined $550,000 for taking more than a half-million dollars from one client’s estate to repay money he took from another client.
Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Ronald Hauptman gave David Lilly until Jan. 28 to get his affairs in order before beginning his jail term.
Hauptman also placed Lilly on five years probation, fined him $5,000 and ordered him to pay his victim $585,000 in restitution, a court clerk said. In October, Lilly pleaded no contest to two counts of grand theft by embezzlement.
Prosecutors contend he took $500,000 from the estate of Los Angeles businessman Martin Hyatt while serving as Hyatt’s executor from 1985 to 1992.
