A 21-year-old Burbank woman was arrested for child endangerment after she crashed her car with her 2-year-old daughter in the passenger seat while allegedly shooting herself up with drugs, authorities said Monday.
When police responded to a Burbank traffic accident in the 400 block of East Santa Anita Avenue at 4:30 a.m. Friday, they found Maria Gonzalez bleeding from a needle wound in her arm and her child crying in the front seat, Burbank police said.
Police said Gonzalez may have smashed into a parked car because she was allegedly under the influence of drugs. Officers found a used syringe on the front seat as well as an unspecified amount of cocaine.
Police said they notified the county Department of Children’s Services to care for the 2-year-old while Gonzalez was treated at Thompson Memorial Medical Center.
Officials then went to Gonzalez’s home in the 300 block of Elmwood Avenue to check on her other child, a 4-month-old girl. Investigators found a syringe in a baby basket beside the baby’s crib, Sgt. Robert Brode said.
Police then arrested the baby’s father, Raul Rodriguez, 27, at the home on suspicion of child endangerment.
