Class: Junior
Eggleston, the Empire League’s most valuable player last season as a sophomore, is off to a good start this year, averaging about 25 points and 14 rebounds. Last Tuesday, she broke the school’s single-game scoring record with 41 points in three quarters of a 77-19 victory over Anaheim. Thursday, she had 30 points and 17 rebounds as Cypress defeated then-sixth-ranked El Dorado, 53-48, becoming the first team to beat the Golden Hawks this season. Eggleston, who at 6 feet is an inch taller than she was last season, is a strong inside player who gets many of her points after offensive rebounds. “She’s very instinctive,” Cypress Coach Denise Selbe said. “She seems to know where the ball is going to go, and on top of that she’s very aggressive.”
Other top performers:
Blythe Linsey, who had 29 points and 20 rebounds in Calvary Chapel’s 40-28 Olympic League victory over Orange Lutheran.
Leticia Oseguera, who had 22 points and 20 rebounds in Mater Dei’s 69-43 South Coast League victory over El Toro and 26 points and 11 rebounds in an 83-39 victory over Western.
Joan Paje, who had 28 points, including six three-point baskets, in Edison’s 61-57 victory over Fountain Valley, which kept the Chargers tied with Marina for first place in the Sunset League.
Michaela Ross, who scored 34 points, including six in overtime, in Newport Harbor’s 54-50 Sea View League victory over Tustin. Ross also had 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 71-25 victory over Saddleback.
