ROUNDUP : Martell’s Shot Gives Los Amigos Overtime Victory

Jeff Martell made a three-pointer with six seconds left in overtime to give Los Amigos a 49-48 victory over Bolsa Grande Wednesday in a Garden Grove League boys’ basketball game at Bolsa Grande.
Martell, who had six three-point baskets, also made one with eight seconds left in regulation to tie the score, 45-45, sending the game into overtime.
Martell finished with 24 points for Los Amigos (3-10, 2-2 in league).
Robert Fierro and James Britton scored 14 and 11 points, respectively, for Bolsa Grande (5-8, 0-4).
In other Garden Grove League boys’ games:
Kennedy 71, Rancho Alamitos 54--Patrick Kunz scored 28 points and Jeff Cummins added 17 for Kennedy (13-3, 4-0). Rancho Alamitos (7-8, 3-1), got 15 points from David Guzman.
Pacifica 63, La Quinta 58--Jason Cousins scored seven of his 13 points in the fourth quarter to help Pacifica outscore La Quinta, 25-13, in the final period. Chris Vlasic scored 14 points and Ramon Alliman added 13 for host Pacifica (7-5, 2-2). Greg Greenfield scored 14 points for La Quinta (4-9, 2-2).
In South Coast League boys’ basketball:
Mater Dei 65, Mission Viejo 30--Marmet Williams scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds as top-ranked Mater Dei (18-1, 2-0) rolled past Mission Viejo (6-10, 0-2). Mater Dei led by only five points after the first quarter but outscored Mission Viejo, 17-4, in the second. Clay McKnight scored all nine of his points in the second quarter for Mater Dei, which did not commit a second-half foul.
Capistrano Valley 81, San Clemente 65--Eric Seiffert and Corey Kost scored 23 and 19 points, respectively, for Capistrano Valley (2-0 in league). Luke Mannix scored 21 points for San Clemente (4-12, 0-2).
Dana Hills 72, El Toro 52--Justin Hinsey scored 26 points to lead Dana Hills (9-7, 2-0), which also got 14 points each from Adam Lasnier and Bob Hefty.
In Century League boys’ basketball:
El Modena 61, Santa Ana Valley 58 (OT)--Casey Shine hit a three-pointer with three seconds left to send the game into overtime, and teammate Aaron Aguilera had four of his team’s six points in overtime for El Modena (8-7, 2-0). Anthony Porter led Santa Ana Valley with a game-high 28 points, and Aguilera, had 24 points for El Modena.
Orange 61, Canyon 50--Gil Gonzales scored 18 points and made four three-point baskets for Orange (7-9, 1-1). Tony Pappas and John Werhas scored 16 and 13 points, respectively, for Canyon (10-5, 1-1).
Villa Park 54, Foothill 52--Bobby Wolf made two free throws with one second remaining for visiting Villa Park (5-10, 1-1). Justin Bower had 15 points for Foothill (6-11, 1-1).
In Freeway League boys’ basketball:
Buena Park 61, Troy 56--Buena Park’s Alex Tolentino scored 22 points for host Buena Park (8-8, 1-1). Troy is 8-8, 0-2.
Sonora 60, Fullerton 51--Chris St. Clair scored 27 points and Chris Campbell added 21 as Sonora (14-3, 2-0) topped host Fullerton (9-8, 0-2), which got 18 points from Chad Murray.
La Habra 70, Sunny Hills 61--Ken Cauley and Eddy Glover each scored 16 points as La Habra (7-8, 2-0) beat Sunny Hills (6-9, 1-1), which got 20 points from Mario Vertuol.
In Pacific Coast League boys’ basketball:
Estancia 58, Laguna Hills 55--Jim Faulkner had 24 points, including five three-pointers, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots for Estancia (9-8, 2-0). Laguna Hills was led by Matt Stilson, who had 15 points for the Hawks (7-8, 1-1).
Trabuco Hills 92, Laguna Beach 69--Matt Moore and Brett Poulos scored 23 and 21 points, respectively, for Trabuco Hills (15-3, 2-0). Poulos hit five three-point shots and had seven assists.
Century 64, Costa Mesa 52--Jason Welty scored 20 points and Darvin Thompson had 14 to lead Century (12-4, 1-1) Lam Luu scored 17 points for Costa Mesa.
In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:
La Quinta 52, Pacifica 50 (OT)--Shannon Mimms hit an 18-footer with 16 seconds remaining in overtime for La Quinta (9-3, 2-2). Crystal Sharrow hit a four-foot bank shot with 48 seconds left for Pacifica (2-8, 1-3) to tie the score, 49-49. Both teams made a free-throw each to tie it again at 50-50.
The lead changed hands four times in the fourth quarter. Pollard Surch had a game-high 19 points for Pacifica, which has had three overtime losses this season.
