BREA — A 23-year-old man died of injuries in a crash after trying to flee police on his motorcycle at speeds of more than 100 m.p.h., officers said Saturday.
The man, whose name is being withheld until relatives are notified, died of head injuries about 11:45 p.m. Friday at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
Officer Keith Watson said police began chasing the man about 2:30 p.m. Friday.
“The pursuit started at Birch Street and Associated Road and proceeded southbound . . . at speeds in excess of 100 m.p.h.,” Watson said. “The driver of the motorcycle drove through several red lights during the pursuit.”
The cyclist lost control on a curve just east of an intersection at Valencia Avenue and Birch Street, and crashed into a metal guardrail, Watson said.
