WOMEN’S BASKETBALL : UCLA Goes Cold, Loses to Cal

UCLA went cold in the second half and lost to California, 78-70, Saturday night in a Pacific 10 women’s basketball game at Berkeley.

Cal shot 62.3% (15 of 24) in the second half, UCLA 31.6% (12 of 38).

Milica Vukadinovic made four of four three-point shots, including three during a five-minute span in the second half, as Cal pulled away. Vukadinovic’s hot streak followed a 13-4 run by Cal that put the Bears ahead, 50-42, with 16:31 left. UCLA, which fell to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in the Pac-10, led at halftime, 38-37.

Junior forward Amy Jalewalia made 12 of 15 shots and finished with a career-high 28 points for the Bruins, who lost their third in a row. Natalie Williams had 18 points and nine rebounds.

UCLA’s Michelle Palmisane tried 10 three-point shots, but made only one.

Vukadinovic, a 6-1 point guard, had 20 points for Cal (11-3, 3-2), and Kesha Martin scored 18.
