Columbia National Closed: Federal regulators closed Columbia National Bank in Santa Monica and approved the assumption of its insured deposits by Western Bank of Los Angeles. Columbia’s two offices will not reopen, but customers may get access to their deposits beginning today at Western Bank offices in Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said. Columbia, with assets of $47.8 million, has been in financial trouble since 1988, the office of the Comptroller of the Currency said.
