Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills has donated $44,000 to the Foundation for Pierce College, which will enable the college nursing program to avoid canceling enrollments.
The money will provide a nursing instructor for approximately 25 students for one semester, according to Kaiser officials.
The nursing department had faced the possibility of canceling enrollments in the program when it failed to obtain funding from the state.
“Nurses are in demand despite Southern California’s economy,” said Sharon Hall, chairwoman of the Pierce College Department of Nursing and Allied Health. “Our program is experiencing greater interest while our budget has not increased.”
