Sylmar’s Pierce, Murray to Play Football at Pacific 10 Schools

Linebackers Tyrone Pierce and Anthony Murray of Sylmar High made oral commitments this week to play football for Pacific 10 Conference schools next year.
Pierce, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound All-City outside linebacker, committed to UCLA. Murray, a 6-2, 215-pound inside linebacker, will play at Oregon State.
Pierce canceled a scheduled trip to Washington and passed on offers from Washington State, California and Oregon.
“I just felt (UCLA) was the school for me--academically and socially,” Pierce said.
Helping Pierce make the decision to play for UCLA was London Woodfin, a former Sylmar player and good friend who attends UCLA.
Murray, who had a game-high seven tackles in the Spartans’ 17-0 victory over Carson in the City Section 4-A Division championship game, passed on an offer from New Mexico, then canceled trips to Nevada Las Vegas and Northern Arizona.
