Lower-Priced HDTV Set Unveiled: Toshiba Corp. introduced a lower-priced high-definition television set in Japan. The 32-inch set will list for $7,840, the first full-featured HDTV priced below $8,000. Toshiba lists a price of $19,200 for its current 36-inch model. Toshiba said it cut the cost chiefly by developing new integrated circuits for the set’s decoder, which converts complicated HDTV broadcast signals into the images shown on the wide screen. Japanese stores have been selling crystal-clear HDTV sets for two years, but sales have been restrained by high prices.
