SEAL BEACH : City Rejects Alcohol Sales Bid at Oakwood

The City Council this week rejected a bid by the Oakwood Apartments to sell alcohol at a convenience store inside the First Street complex.
The decision, made unanimously at Monday’s council meeting, caps a six-month-long effort by apartment operators, R&B; Realty Group of Los Angeles, to obtain a liquor license.
In September, the Planning Commission rejected the request, but attorneys for R&B; Realty Group appealed the ruling to the City Council.
Several council members have said that there are already enough liquor-selling establishments in the area.
The apartment operators insisted that the beer and wine sales would not degrade the area.
Monday’s meeting was the third in a row in which the issue of alcohol sales was a major topic. At the last two meetings, the council discussed and ultimately refused to grant extended hours to the Seaside Grill, a Main Street restaurant that also serves alcoholic beverages.
