Fatal Shooting Brings Prison for Transient

SANTA ANA — A transient was sentenced Friday to 20 years to life in prison for fatally shooting a 19-year-old Anaheim man after a traffic dispute.
Ronald Lamar Chase, 31, who officials said lived in his car, was convicted of second-degree murder in the Dec. 13, 1991, death of Steve Escalera, Deputy Dist. Atty. Paul E. Odwald said.
Chase was driving in Huntington Beach when he began honking at a car which he later said had cut him off, Odwald said. Escalera and his companion mistakenly believed that Chase was honking at them and an argument ensued, he said.
