School Choice Really Case of ‘White Flight’?
In “Forget Symbols: Do What’s Best for Child” (Jan. 17), Dianne Klein says there is nothing wrong with millions of Americans choosing their new neighborhoods for the schools.
She says it’s called “putting the kids first.”
Funny, it used to be called white flight.
She then says all Americans suffer because millions of poor Americans aren’t able to put their kids first.
Please.
Nobody suffers as much as the children whose only option is to attend the neighborhood schools abandoned by the affluent.
If the public schools are ever to recover, those parents who are abandoning them in droves need to start thinking not only of what is good for their children but of what is good for all children.
