NEWPORT BEACH COSTA MESA : Schedule for Hiring Superintendent OKd
- Share via
The Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board of Trustees adopted a timeline Tuesday night to hire a superintendent by June.
In the first phase, Richard Montgomery, head of the search division of the California School Boards Assn., will hold public discussions in the next two weeks to collect suggestions about the desired qualities of a new superintendent.
Montgomery is scheduled to visit many of the district’s 26 schools to talk with students and faculty members about the candidate profile.
School officials are also planning to distribute about 2,000 surveys to parents about the candidate profile.
The search was initiated after longtime Supt. John W. Nicoll retired in December. Stan Corey, a former superintendent for the Irvine Unified School District, will fill the office in the interim.
The Board of Trustees intends to adopt the selection profile at its March 9 meeting.
Montgomery then will begin searching for candidates who match it. The district will also create a screening committee and an interview committee to evaluate candidates.
If everything goes according to schedule, a new superintendent may be hired by June 11.
Further information about the appointment schedule may be obtained by calling (714) 760-3500.
