VENTURA : Volunteer to Receive Youth Club Award

The Boys & Girls Club of Ventura will present its annual outstanding youth service award to one of its longtime volunteers during a special dinner celebration tonight.

Jim Word, a 55-year-old department store manager and former president of the Greater Ventura Chamber of Commerce, will receive the organization’s fourth annual “America Medallion Award” during a club ceremony at the Wedgewood Banquet Center in Ventura.

Word, a Boys & Girls Club volunteer for nine years, is a past president of the Boys & Girls Club and the former chairman of a campaign committee that raised $1 million for a club on the city’s east end.

“This is the kind of group that can make a difference,” Word said.
