Kjetil Andre Aamodt of Norway won his second gold medal and third medal overall in the World Alpine Ski Championships in Japan, taking the men’s slalom by a .04 of a second over Marc Girardelli of Luxembourg, with Austria’s Thomas Stangassinger another .07 back.
Alberto Tomba of Italy, still fighting the effects of flu, entered and exited the championships in the space of about 30 seconds when he failed to complete the first slalom run.
Aamodt had a combined time of 1 minute 41.68 seconds.
