State Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Panorama City) became the second mayoral candidate to seek public financing for his campaign when he requested $239,000 in public funds Friday.
The assemblyman reported raising $457,000 for his mayoral campaign from private sources during 1992, making him the third-most successful fund-raiser among the 11 top mayoral candidates.
Los Angeles Councilman Mike Woo was the first mayoral candidate to seek public funding, asking for $339,500 to supplement the $877,000 he had raised from private sources.
Under city law, candidates for city offices are entitled to receive matching funds from the city treasury if they agree to accept overall campaign spending limits.
