HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Santa Clara Routs St. Genevieve for Cvijanovich’s 700th Victory

Santa Clara High gave Coach Lou Cvijanovich his 700th victory Friday night as the Saints defeated St. Genevieve, 70-52, in a Southern Section Division IV-A first-round playoff game at Santa Clara.
Cvijanovich is the third state coach to reach the plateau, according to Cal-Hi Sports.
Dave Varela scored 24 points for Santa Clara (20-5) and Jeremy Iaccino led St. Genevieve with 16.
In Southern Section second-round boys’ basketball playoff games:
Simi Valley 55, Dana Hills 41--The host Pioneers (22-5) scored only five points in the second quarter but still proved too much for the outmanned Dolphins (14-13) in a Division 1-AA game.
Simi Valley, which led, 14-4, in the first quarter, watched Dana Hills cut its lead to 19-18 at halftime. Simi Valley increased its lead to 11 at the end of the third quarter on a breakaway layup by Jeremy Roberts.
Craig Griffin (14 points) led the Pioneers’ balanced attack. Ryan Briggs added 12.
