Coach: Sue Hall (sixth year)
1992: 22-7, 11-3 in league; lost to 5-A Southern Section championship Cypress in the semifinals; finished second in the Garden Grove League to Pacifica.
Key returners: Lana Jimenez, Sr., center fielder, batted .384, had 38 hits, seven RBIs, stole 17 bases and scored 17 runs, first-team CIF in 1990 and 1992; Lisa Pitt, Sr., pitcher/shortstop, hit a home run and drove in 13, batted .330, stole 18 bases, went 12-4 as a pitcher with a 0.37 ERA and struck out 100; Nicole Paloney, Sr., drove in 16 runs and scored 23 runs, stole 15 bases, was 10-3 with a 0.28 ERA and had 83 strikeouts, league co-MVP and first-team CIF selection in 1992.
Key newcomer: Krista Dowland, Jr., pitcher/infield, most promising of the 1992 junior varsity crop.
Outlook: Given the personnel, Kennedy shouldn’t veer much from its winning tradition under Hall--four section semifinal appearances, the 1988 title and a two prestigious preseason tournament titles in 1991. Another banner season is expected. When Hall is aksed how Kennedy will do this year, “what they mean is will we win CIF,” she said.
