Hit the Road

As a former war correspondent in Vietnam, I really enjoyed the stories on travel in Vietnam. However, I must take exception to Tom Romeo’s advice that people try the Vietnamese soup (pho) and noodles at street-side stalls because it tastes good and is very cheap (“Tourist Tours of Duty,” Jan. 31). Even if you have a seasoned stomach, you should exercise the same caution you do in Mexico. No water, no ice cubes, no salads and no road stands or you will live to regret it. Believe me on this one.
