SUNNY SCHOOL: Here’s the latest in environmental correctness: Costa Mesa has installed two solar-powered flashing beacons near California School on Baker Street. Only a few other cities locally--including Anaheim--have tried them. They’re cheaper than electrical flashers and can be moved easily. . . . Says Peter Nagahari, Costa Mesa transportation manager: “We hope that better placement of the flashers will slow drivers down.”
