Powell Stands Out in Verdugo Hills Loss

Three-sport standout Eddie Powell once again took center stage for Verdugo Hills High, going three for four with a triple and two runs batted in during the Dons’ 10-4 loss to Van Nuys on Tuesday in the opening round of the Van Nuys invitational.
Powell’s previous baseball experience consists of a stint on the junior varsity last season, but mastering sports quickly is nothing new for him. Despite never having played a moment of organized football, Powell led the City Section with nine interceptions from his free-safety position.
Alternating between guard and center, Powell averaged 28.4 points and 13.3 rebounds for the basketball team.
“He’s just a great all-around athlete,” Verdugo Hills baseball Coach John Vera said.
