James E. Freeman Jr. has been appointed to the newly created position of chief operating officer for Day Runner Inc., the Fullerton maker of personal organizers. Freeman was formerly with New Product Insights, a marketing consulting firm based in Overland Park, Kan. Before that, he was president and chief operating officer of Stuart Hall Co., a supplier of office and school products. Freeman has also held senior-level positions at Thermos Corp., Pillsbury, Ore-Ida Foods and Procter & Gamble.
