Azusa Pacific Wins District Title

Ronnie Winbush scored 25 of his 30 points in the second half Tuesday night, leading Azusa Pacific to a 79-58 victory over Westmont at Azusa Pacific and giving the Cougars their first NAIA District 3 men’s basketball championship since 1974.
The victory qualified the second-ranked Cougars (30-3) for the NAIA national tournament March 16-22 at Kansas City, Mo.
Azusa Pacific led at halftime, 30-19, and pulled away in the second half, when Winbush,a 6-foot-8 junior forward, made five three-point shots.
Michael Spears scored 26 points to lead Westmont, which ended the season with a 19-12 record.
