OUTLOOK
Marina has split its games in the Loara tournament, defeating Pacifica, 11-4, and then losing to Irvine, 7-3. The Vikings averaged 10 runs in their opening three games before facing a very good Irvine team. “We’ve been swinging the bats pretty well, and Joe Snyder has been on fire,” Renfrow said. Snyder, the team’s cleanup hitter, had a homer, triple and two doubles and a whopping 12 RBIs in the first four games. Damato, the team’s leadoff hitter, was four for eight in a doubleheader against Norwalk Glenn. “We’re going to score runs; we just have to find a starting pitching rotation,” Renfrow said. Hernandez, who throws with good velocity and adds a changeup and curve, is the team’s best, followed by Sailor, Valbuena and Trulin. The Vikings has some serious depth in the bullpen; Renfrow used four left-handers who didn’t pitch over the weekend against Irvine Monday. Jim Sipkovich, who allowed only a triple in three innings, was the best of the newcomers. Yakura, sent to Fountain Valley last year for disciplinary reasons, has returned. “He learned his lesson and is a different person now,” Renfrow said.
