Kennedy Guard Harris Named Girls’ City 4-A Co-Player of Year

Kennedy High’s Shaneya Harris has been named girls’ basketball co-player of the year with Crenshaw’s Cathleen Grice in the City Section 4-A Division.
Harris, a 5-foot-11 guard, averaged 27.8 points, 13.3 rebounds and 5.1 steals. She shot 71.8% from the field and made 82.3% of her free throws.
“She’s the type of player you get once in a lifetime,” Kennedy Coach Donis Bailey said.
North Hollywood’s Darvena Merritt also was named to the All-City 4-A team, and teammate Anna Celaya and Canoga Park’s Abina Lewis received honorable mention.
In the 3-A division, Dimara Hammond of Monroe, Georgia Roy of Chatsworth, Ronice Slater of Sylmar, Konya Hubbard of San Fernando and Julie Kawamota of Taft were named to the All-City team.
