NBA ROUNDUP : It’s History: Miami Beats Bulls

From Associated Press

Steve Smith scored seven points in the final 2:33, Michael Jordan missed his last four shots and the Miami Heat beat the Chicago Bulls for the first time Thursday night, 97-95, at Miami.

Jordan’s final shot, a driving one-hander, fell off the rim with three seconds left, and Miami’s Grant Long grabbed the rebound.

Since joining the league in 1988, Miami had lost all 19 games against Chicago, including 16 during the regular season and three in the first round of last year’s playoffs.

Led by Rony Seikaly’s season-high 30 points, Miami extended its franchise-record home winning streak to nine games and halted Chicago’s road winning streak at seven.

Smith’s 18-footer with 2:06 remaining gave Miami a 90-89 lead, its first since early in the second half. Chicago regained the lead when Horace Grant hit a follow shot, but Harold Miner’s 15-footer with 1:20 left put the Heat ahead to stay, 92-91.

Phoenix (12-0 against Miami) is the only team the Heat has never beaten.

Houston 104, Portand 91--Hakeem Olajuwon’s 27 points and 10 rebounds pushed the Rockets to their 12th consecutive victory at Houston.
