The Boston Bruins became the third Adams Division team to lock up a Stanley Cup playoff berth with a 5-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens Thursday night at Boston.
Darin Kimble and Steve Heinz scored 19 seconds apart during a four-goal Boston outburst in the first period and Dimitri Kvartalnov broke out of a scoring slump to score his 24th and 25th goals of the season.
New York Rangers 4, Chicago 1--Tony Amonte scored his 12th power-play goal and added a key assist to lead the Rangers at Chicago.
Philadelphia 6, Washington 4--Garry Galley had two goals and two assists as the Flyers rebounded from a sluggish start to beat the Capitals at Philadelphia.
St. Louis 5, San Jose 2--Defenseman Jeff Brown scored twice and Brett Hull had a goal and two assists to lead the Blues over the Sharks at San Jose.
Minnesota 4, Vancouver 3--Dave Gagner scored two goals as the North Stars stopped the Canucks from clinching a playoff berth at Saskatoon.
Calgary 6, Detroit 3--Avenging an earlier eight-goal loss to the Red Wings, Theoren Fleury scored twice to lead the Flames at Calgary.
