NORTHRIDGE : Jaywalker Struck, Killed by Car

A Van Nuys man was fatally struck by a car while jaywalking in Northridge, police said Monday.

Martin Mendoza Arriola, 25, was illegally crossing Roscoe Boulevard just west of Balboa Boulevard about 11:15 p.m. Sunday when he was hit by a car traveling east at 35 m.p.h., said Officer Victor Colello of the Los Angeles Police Department. Arriola was dead when officers arrived.

The driver of the car, Vincent Abraham Charles, 40, of Burbank, was unhurt. He was not cited in the accident, Colello said.
