Short’s Lineup: Actor-comedian Martin Short says he was offered NBC’s late-night slot but turned it down because “it’s a tough act to follow, and being on every night of the week is too confining.” Instead, look for Short to do a weekly NBC comedy series on which he can be himself, play a wide variety of characters and perform before a live audience. But Short won’t do the show until some time after he leaves Broadway’s “The Goodbye Girl,” most likely this fall. His NBC deal also calls for him to produce other programs in which he will not star.
