PARTY ANIMALS: Metallica had its “Snake Pit,” the space cut out of the center of the stage for a handful of lucky fans to stand in during concerts last year. Now Poison is trying to go that one better: the “Backstage Party Cage.”
During shows on the group’s upcoming tour, a cage will be wheeled around arenas, with local radio deejays picking fans from the crowd and taking them backstage for an after-show party with the band. Singer Bret Michaels also says that the Poison members will make occasional forays outside the arenas to join fans holding pre-concert tailgate parties.
Sounds like a security nightmare but promoters are confident that there won’t be problems.
“I would have to think their management would know what they can and cannot do,” says Jennifer Perry, talent buyer at Avalon Attractions, which will be promoting a Los Angeles stop (still unscheduled) on the tour. “They’ve been around long enough to know how to make these things work.”
