Controversy Brews Over Crazy Horse

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Last fall, Congress passed a law designed to stop the sale of Crazy Horse malt liquor after U.S. Surgeon General Antonia Novello and the Oglala Sioux tribe objected to the name.
Hornell Brewing Co. contested the law, claiming that its free speech rights were violated.
This week, a federal judge sided with Hornell and overturned the law.
But the brew may face another challenge.
“People wouldn’t stand for Martin Luther King police batons or Rodney King police batons,” said Bob Gough, a lawyer representing the administrator of Crazy Horse’s estate. “It’s that level or worse.”
