Gaspar is only now realizing his full potential for Saddleback and Coach Jack Hodges. Gaspar, from Capistrano Valley High School, was bothered by a sore arm and could only play shortstop.
But in the last three weeks, his arm has come around and he has established himself as a top reliever. Gaspar put his talents to full use last week in the Buckman-Mitchell Tournament in Visalia.
He was 11 for 22 in six games, scoring eight runs and driving in five more. He had two home runs, three doubles and stole three bases in four attempts.
He also pitched the final four innings in the championship game against Fullerton to get the victory. He didn’t allow a hit and had two strikeouts.
Gaspar is hitting .343 with four home runs and 20 RBIs this season. He is also 2-0, has two saves and 19 strikeouts. He has not allowed a run in 16 1/3 innings pitched.
Other top performers:
Kevin Clark hit .600 (nine for 15), had six RBIs, scored five runs and was named the co-most valuable player as Cypress won the Allan Hancock Tournament.
Jason Dietrich of Rancho Santiago pitched a one-hitter as the Dons beat Oxnard, 3-1, in the title game of Channel Coast Tournament.
