The Indictments

Each of the defendants charged in Count 1 of the indictment was accused of both a principal offense, willfully using unreasonable force against Rodney G. King, and a secondary one, aiding and abetting the other officers.
A conviction on either offense is enough to find the defendant guilty of violating the civil rights law.
COUNT 1
LAURENCE M. POWELL, A 3 1/2-year veteran of the LAPD at the time of beating
* Accused of willfully using unreasonable force against King: Guilty * Accused of aiding and abetting the others: Not Guilty TIMOTHY E. WIND, One year with the department
* Accused of willfully using unreasonable force against King: Not Guilty * Accused of aiding and abetting the others: Not Guilty THEODORE J. BRISENO, 10-year veteran of the LAPD
* Accused of willfully using unreasonable force against King: Not Guilty * Accused of aiding and abetting the others: Not Guilty Background: According to the indictment, the three officers deprived King of his right to be secure in his person and free from the intentional use of unreasonable force by one making an arrest.
COUNT 2
STACEY C. KOON, Ranking supervisor at the scene, a 14-year veteran
* Accused of willfully permitting the use of unreasonable force against King: Guilty Background: According to the indictment, Koon’s failure to act willfully deprived King of his right to be kept free from harm while in official custody.
PENALTIES
* Koon and Powell, the convicted officers, could be sentenced to as many as 10 years in prison and fined up to $250,000. The sentences could be influenced by a number of factors and may be less.
