Cathlab Settles Consumer Lawsuit

SANTA ANA — Cathlab Products Inc., a Costa Mesa company that manufactures pressure-monitoring kits for hospitals and medical centers, has settled a lawsuit brought by the Orange County district attorney’s consumer protection unit.
Cathlab acknowledged no wrongdoing but agreed to conform to all applicable state health requirements, the district attorney’s office said Tuesday. In a civil lawsuit filed in Superior Court in Santa Ana, the district attorney had alleged that Cathlab failed to calibrate and maintain equipment used to ensure that pressure-monitoring equipment and packaging remain sterile. The lawsuit also alleged that Cathlab failed to maintain required shipping records.
Cathlab and its president, Charles Boyd, paid $45,000 in civil penalties and agreed to reimburse the state Department of Health Services for costs generated during an investigation.
