Out of the Box: The public will finally get a chance to see the controversial film “Boxing Helena,” starring Sherilyn Fenn as a woman whose limbs are hacked off by an obsessive surgeon who wants to keep her for his own. Orion Pictures has acquired North American distribution rights for a Sept. 3 release. “Boxing Helena” first came into the limelight when Madonna pulled out of the lead role two years ago. Later, Kim Basinger pulled out, although a Los Angeles Superior Court recently ruled that Basinger must pay the producers $7.4 million for reneging on her verbal agreement. Still up in the air is whether the dark film, which was not well received at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, will receive an adults-only NC-17 rating.
