CLOSE ENCOUNTER: Sinead O’Connor, Neneh Cherry, Public Enemy’s Chuck D. and members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers are among those signed up by producer Afrika Islam (best known for his work with Ice-T) as guests on “Bubbleheads,” an attempt to create a ‘90s answer to Parliament’s funky sci-fi “Mothership Connection” album.
Islam says that the title and inspiration for the album come from popularized images of space aliens. The album weaves in samples of lectures on the UFO phenomenon and alien abductions.
“With ‘Bubbleheads’ we blame everything on the aliens,” he says.
Islam is producing the album independently, but says he has gotten interest from at least two major record companies about releasing the project.
