Basinger Files for Bankruptcy: Actress Kim Basinger has filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition in Los Angeles, claiming that she cannot afford to pay a $7.4-million penalty for failing to act in the film “Boxing Helena.” The move protects Basinger’s personal assets, which are said to be worth about $5 million. Howard Weitzman, Basinger’s attorney, said the actress had no choice but to file. “She was forced to do it because the judge refused to follow the law and allowed an unreasonable verdict to stand,” he said.
