Uffizi to Reopen: Florence’s 400-year-old Uffizi art gallery, badly damaged by a car bomb last week, should reopen on June 18, with 80% of the gallery open to visitors, Culture Minister Alberto Ronchey said Tuesday. Italy’s top designers, including Giorgio Armani, Ferragamo, Gucci and Ermenegildo Zegna, have come to the aid of the famed gallery, offering to donate 2% of profits from their Florence stores this month to help with restoration costs. While the gallery’s most famous paintings were shielded from the blast by protective glass, experts have begun restoring damaged works such as Flemish master Peter Paul Rubens’ “Portrait of Philip IV of Spain.”
