WESTLAKE : Church Plans to Open Swap Meet

Pueblo Nuevo, a storefront congregation in Westlake, is moving ahead with plans to open a swap meet next door to its chapel and thrift store at 7th Street and Burlington Avenue.
The plan, which is contingent on a $40,000 loan being channeled through Rebuild L.A., calls for construction of 19 vending stalls in a 4,000-square-foot retail space at the corner of the block.
The Rev. Philip Lance, pastor and executive director of the year-old church, is recruiting vendors, with Westlake residents receiving priority, to rent space in the swap meet.
Pueblo Nuevo has also contracted with the Business Development Center of the Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment to train the vendors and with the Korean Immigrant Workers Advocates to recruit Korean-American vendors, help with publicity in the Korean-American community and serve as a mediator if there are disputes.
Lance said he expects the loan to be approved by the middle of this month and hopes to open the swap meet in August.
